The Scranton city council continues their efforts to make the community a better place to live. The council took several actions at its Sept. 12 meeting to clean up nuisance properties.
The council authorized the city attorney to request another court hearing for the property at 600 Main St. The council also plans to petition for ownership of 601 State St under section 657A.10A.
An inspector will be hired to check out the property at 1107 Eagle St due to several citizen complaints regarding the condition of the property.
The council approved Ordinance No. 215 relating to parking areas on State St from Linn to Locust Sts and on Locust St from State to Jefferson Sts. Signs will be erected to designate no parking areas.
Banking agreements with Peoples Trust & Savings Bank were given the okay by the council. A bid from Middendorf LLC for HVAC checks for the community center and adding on the city hall units was approved.
The $300 bid from Curt Eason to purchase the old playground equipment was approved. The equipment must be removed no later than Oct. 1.
Monthly reports were given for the community center, library, sesquicentennial and public works. The city street financial report was reviewed for publication.
Items for discussion included the electronic sign, DOT speed study along Highway 25, drug testing policies, tree planting and Beggars’ Night. Trick-or-treat was set for Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 pm. ~The Scranton Journal
